A truck can be rented from Basic Rental for $50 per day plus $.20 per mile. Roadrunners charges $20 a day plus $.50 per mile to rent the same truck. How many miles must be driven in a day to make the rental cost for Basic Rental a better deal that that for Roadrunners?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Write an equation for the cost for each rental. For example, Roadrunners charges $20 + $0.5*miles. Set the two equations equal to each other and solve for miles. At that distance, they will cost the same.

50 + .2(m) < 20 + .5(m) 50 + .2m < 20 + .5m -.3m < - 30
