Please help! Determine whether the graph of of the equation is symmetric with respect to the x-axis, y-axis, and / or the origin. 1.) y=(x+8)(x-9) 2.) y=(x-1)(x-4)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

A function is symmetric about the y axis (sometimes called an even function) when y(x)=y(-x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got none for both but I am not sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does anyone know and could help me?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yeah i guess neither of them are symmetric

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

what method did use, @some_someone,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm i used the one where for the y-axis : y(x)=y(-x) and x-axis: y(x)=-y(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

w8 i m telling

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see fr the equation u hav listed neither of them is symmetric about y and x axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nw check fr origin :put -y and -x in place of y and x respectively in the equation u hav listed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes none of them are symmetric. Am i right? for orgin i also got none. but i am not sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

while putting -x and -y r u getting the same equations? check it out n tell me asap

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u r nt getting the same equation so fr the eqn. 1 it is not symmetric about origin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

check fr equation 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

equation 2 also not symmetric about origin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, i got that for both. i also got no x and y-axis of symmetry for both. am i right for that?
