There are a couple of rules or steps that you must follow when handwriting Chinese characters. If you don't follow them, you will have difficulty when trying to create them on the touch screen to input characters into you mobile device. I have attached a file that give the basics of the steps for this which is the same information but a little clearer than what is in the online text book assigned to the MIT course. 
There are lots of online resources you can find for learning how to properly write Chinese characters along with mobile apps and books.
