What does it mean for a number to be the "solution" to an equation? Give an example of a variable equation and its solution. Explain in complete sentences how you know that number is the solution.

it means if you replace the variable with the number, the equation will give a TRUE STATEMENT... for example, 3 is a solution to " x + 5 = 8" 3 is the only number (solution) that will make the equation true.
