Help! 35a/5c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the question??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

35a divided by 5c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can see that. What are you supposed to be doing with it?? Simplifying??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you divide, you only divide like terms. so what in that question can be divided?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well here is the full question. 5a(b-2c)=35c solve for b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

35 and 7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you are supposed to solve for b, distributing would complicate the problem. First divide both sides by 5a. Do that first and post what you get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b-2c=35c/5a ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nice now get b alone. What do you think you need to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add 2c right? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup. done and done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but wait, would 35c/ 5a turn into 7c/a?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or something? because you divide by 35 and 7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait oh okay so the answer would be b=7 c/a -2c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and be careful because you need a common denominator before you can add the 2c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh I ment +2c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you should be able to just leave the answer as is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would be the answer now? I am really confused!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the one you posted a couple lines above, except +

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b=7 c/a +2c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!
