how do you graph 8/x+1 in comparison to 1/x i know how to graph 1/x.. and x+1 means to the left 1.. but what does the numerator do/ change

OpenStudy (anonymous):

numerator would stretch or compress the graph. i believe in this case the graph would be stretched vertically.

so i think the curve would go closer to the origin than 1/x.

how do you indicate in the equation a releflection in the x axis or y axis? i thought it would be -1/x and 1/-(x) but it turns out to be the same..

|dw:1358911126676:dw| sorry for the terrible graphs. but do you see how the graph is reflected over both by changing 1/x to -1/x? and -1/x and 1/(-x) are two ways of writing the same equation.
