Which battle convinced Allied leaders that an invasion of the Japanese mainland might be too costly in human lives? (5 points) A. Coral Sea B. Midway C. Okinawa D Guadalcanal

Likely (C) Okinawa. The Allies suffered huge casualties (around 65,000) during the campaign along with the Japanese who lost around 100, 000. But other battles before this one, such as those at Iwo Jima, Saipan, and the Philippines, had also contributed to the idea that taking the Japanese home islands would be just as costly, if not moreso, given the kamikaze fanaticism of a majority of their soldiers to fight until the very end.
