Why was the laurel tree sacred to Apollo?
I'll tell you one version of the story. In Greek mythology, Daphne was a nymph, a female spirit of nature, who possessed extreme beauty. She caught the attention of Apollo, the god of the sun. He lusted for her. He wanted her. Apollo chased Daphne, in an attempt to capture and seduce her. Daphne had no hope of evading Apollo. So, in a last ditch effort to save herself, she pleaded with Gaia, Mother Nature, the Titan of the Earth. She begged Gaia to spare her from Apollo. Gaia answered Daphne's plea. Gaia severed the earth, and allowed the ground to swallow Daphne whole. And out of pity and sorrow, she allowed a laurel tree to grow, at the very spot where Daphne was taken.
Another version of the story says that Daphne was changed into a laurel to escape Apollo. Her hair beacame the leaves, her beautiful body became the tree itself. Apollo hardly endure the loss of Daphne and chose the laurel as his symbol. @InYourHead Great answer by the way !
I've heard that version as well. Honestly I do like it more.
How did the echo come to be? Where did the dew come from? What task does Atlas perform? We are studying this and these are some questions I have
Atlas carries the sky (which is a globe. In some versions, it is said that Atlas carries the world) on his shoulders. He's a Titan if I remember it well. He's also a guardian of the Hesperides Garden. In this garden are the golden apples that Heracles needed to complete his twelves tasks. Well, Echo is a nymph. All that I know is that she tried to seduce Zeus by telling a lot of stories. But Hera didn't like it and she cursed Echo, forcing her to repeat all that the hear. Another version of the myth says that Echo felt in love with Narcisse (you know, the guy who was in love with himself). Devastated, Echo decided to hide in a deep cave. The died slowly, her skin and her bones disappered but her soul, still alive because of the love she had for Narcisse, became a source. Now she takes what she hear and gloomily gives it back. And for the dew... Eos is the Dawn Goddess. I don't really know the story, so you'll have to ask Google, but I think that her son died and she cried so much that, well, her tears became the dew.
let me tell a version I don't really know it but anyway echo was a nymph who well......talked a lot zues took intrest in her and hera found out and tried to find the nymph in question, to save the other nyphs echo distracted hera and when she realized what had happened she cursed her to reapete everything later she fell in love with nicaruss and when he was on a hunting trip echo was hiding and niccarus thought that she was one of his hunting partners later he found echo and rejected her and basically at the end nicarrus was cursed into falling in love wihi own reflection for breaking so many hearts and echos sadness wasted her away until she was nothing. THE END
sorry if its confusing
