x^2-4x+4=49

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve the following quadratic equation by factoring is what the question says

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, subtract 49 from both sides, what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x^2-4x-45\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good, now what 2 numbers multiply to be -45, and add up to be -4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=-9 x=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you would have (x-9)(x+5)=0.. so what would x be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure what to do after that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well set both of those to =0 x-9=0 solve for x and x+5 = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o meaning x=9 x=-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep!
