Philosophy is a very interesting subject to study, and a little difficult to define, but it usually has nothing to do with religion or the "supernatural" so D is out of the question. It's not really a tool as opposed to a field all it owns so I would personally eliminate B. A is somewhat possible but I still prefer C.
