In the diagram below, BC is an altitude of ABD. What is the length of CD? If necessary, round your answer to two decimal places. (Picture below.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is CD=40?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know. o:

OpenStudy (aravindg):

@Tushara how you got CD=40?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

nice question ..its been a long since i tried pure geometry ...gimme some time to get an elegant solution ....do you have anything in mind about doing this question @marcoduuuh ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, don't worry, I'll wait! & no, that's what I'm trying to figure out, I need help with that haha.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

interesting :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, i did it wrong previously, the answer is 57.6.... ill post my solution in a min

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright! Thanks! (:

OpenStudy (aravindg):

ok i got it :)

OpenStudy (aravindg):

first find AB

OpenStudy (aravindg):

@marcoduuuh what did you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

some1 plz check my working, i hope its right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wow, thanks so much for all that! @Tushara

OpenStudy (aravindg):

@Tushara It would have been a better idea if you helped her get to the solution instead of posting worked out answer like that .

OpenStudy (aravindg):

refer openstudy COC http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im pretty bad at getting some1 to work through the problem... i shud try that, thnx for the advice aravind.... and np marcoduh, make sure u understand every step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

She worked through it though, it means when you just give out the answer. When you just give the answer that doesn't help but when you work through it that helps because I can see how to do it. (:

OpenStudy (aravindg):

@marcoduuuh as she said make sure you understand every step ..if theres doubt ask :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (aravindg):

maybe thats the case here ,but there is high chance that students misuse this facility for getting their homework done.that is why Openstudy wants helpers to "guide"the asker to the solution , giving them a feeling that they did it themselves

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I totally understand that! I mean, if you just give the answer it won't help because it's not showing how to do it but for me, this helped me because it was shown how it was done so I can apply it to my future.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

I do get your point ..but imagine someone who came here for submitting their worked out homework ...this worked out answer would have been a lottery for them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But I do understand what you're trying to say.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah! I gotcha!

OpenStudy (aravindg):

:) nice ..happy openstudying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much. (:
