I actually think that the major threat to biodiversity is "habitat loss." Take a look at this article: http://www.nwf.org/Wildlife/Threats-to-Wildlife/Habitat-Loss.aspx "Habitat loss" is where a natural habitat has been drastically changed by the things that humans do, such as cutting down forests, and re-directing a water supply. It results in long term, and sometimes irreparable damage, to natural habitats. And without habitats, entire populations of organisms can die out. "Biodiversity," is the number of different kinds of organisms, that live in a specific area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ When acid rain damages a habitat, and kills organisms, it is an example of "habitat degradation." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DDT is a chemical that's used as an insecticide, to kill insects. Predatory birds are large animals. They need to eat a lot of insects, in order to satisfy their needs. And that is why they end up consuming so much DDT. (We call it "biological magnification.)
