can someone explain scale factor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

scale factor is just a real number multiplier. if something is scaled by 3, that means all of its dimensions are multiplied by 3. if something is scaled by 1/3, that means all of its dimensions are multiplied by 1/3. if something is scaled by -3, that means its dimension is scaled by 3, and is in the opposite direction., etc., etc.

a model car might be just like the real thing except it has decreased by a scale factor of 60
