its simple, if it says ester synthesis you're making an ester where R is a random group like methyl, ethyl, etc. and to know the reactives its basically to know the structure of the product and try to break it into 2 known reagents, in this case an alchol (OHgroup) and an a carboxilic acid and the general reaction
