Mandy is skating at 5 miles per hour. Nikki is skating at 6 miles per hour and started 1 mile behind Mandy. If their rates stay the same, will Mandy catch up with Nikki? Explain.

OpenStudy (raxis):

Yes. Since Nikki is scating faster, she'll eventually catch up sooner or later. More specifically, she'll actually catch up in just one hour. Mandy is skating 5 miles per hour and starts 1 mile ahead, while Nikki is skating 6 miles per hour. After an hour, Mandy would have gone 5 miles on top of her original 1 mile lead but Nikki will have traveled 6 and thus caught up.
