OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

A car A leaves the cafe traveling at 40 mph. Car B leaves the cafe 4 hours later, and travels at 60 mph. If they are both headed in the same direction, how far from the cafe will they meet?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

They meet when the distance travelled is the same. Distance = Rate * Time t is the time travelled by Car A A: Distance = 40 mph * t B: Distance = 60 mph * (t-4) You can look at it another way... How far has A gotten in 4 hours? 4 hrs * 40 mph = 160 miles How fast is B catching A? 60 mph - 40 mph = 20 mph. How long does it take to go 160 miles at 20 mph?
