2/x = x/8 cross multiply and solve for X

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Okay, this is very simple. You are telling me that this is the equation, right?: \[\frac{ 2 }{ x } = \frac{ x }{ 8 }\] Now, what the directions are saying is to cross multiply. Cross multiplying is actually just multiplying left to right, but diagnolly. In this case, instead of multiplying 2 and x, you will be multiplying 2 and 8. What is 2 * 8? It is 16. I'll post the next part of the problem next.

x=4

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

The answer is sixteen without simplifying.
