If the solution of an equation is x=-2 what could the original equation be?

it could be 2x=-4 but the possibilities are infinite

It could be any equivalent equation. My guess is, you have a list of answer choices to choose from.

If that's the case, substitute 2 in place of x for each given equation, then evaluate. For example, suppose 2x = -4 is one of the possibilities. Then substituting -2 for x: 2(-2) = -4 -4 = -4 True
