it looks to me like pathway A and Pathway B are anerobic pathways- lactic acid is the stuff that makes your muscles sore when you work out, and ethyl alcohol is the result of fermentation. the advantages would be that there is still a way to make ATP even with a lack of oxygen. does that make sense?
