What is the solution of the system y=x-4 y=-x
Look that up on google, it will answer it for sure.
http://www.algebra.com/algebra/homework/playground/test.faq.question.428642.html
y=-x. That means y equals minus x. If y equals minus x, then in the first equation, it says y=x-4 There's a letter y in front of the equal sign. In the second equation, it said that y must equal minus x. So wouldn't you want to replace the y with the minus x? \[y=x-4\] \[y=-x\] \[-x=x-4\]
Azteck could you please help me on my question?
Remember, helping means giving you assistance so that YOU CAN solve the question. I'm only there to help you with the understanding of the question, so then you can answer it yourself.
@AlgebraaaGurl What's your question?
Post it in a separate thread
Don't post it here.
iStill Don't Understand , Like The y=-x Part Confuses Me . Is y=-x Equal To y=-1 Times x ? Cause The Solution Is Supposed To Be In The Form Of A Coordinate Thingy &'d We Have To Graph It &'d Stuff
Come'on. Don't go jumping steps for a moment here. Take it step by step.
maths isn't a race to see who can finish faster. It's about a step by step process.
What does this mean in words: \[y=-x\]
Lol iKnowww &'d It Means y Equals Negative x
Great.
Now in the first equation you were given. This is what you were given right? \[y=x-4\]
You just stated, that y equals negative x
Yep Yep
And in that equation I just gave you, there's a y in front of the equal sign.
Couldn't you replace that y with the negative x?
Because you just stated that y equals neagtive x. That means that negative x is y.
OHHHHHHH iGet What You're Saying But iDon't Think iCan Do That Cause We're Supposed To Graph These Two Separate Equations &'d iHave To Figure Out What's The Y Intercept &'d The Slope &'d iCan't Find Anything Out Of y=-x
So you need to graph each one separately?
Yes , The Lines Are Seprate But In The Same Graphs , Like This |dw:1359084265777:dw|
Okay. Can you sketch y=x?
@Niecey
iDon't Understand How
What do you mean you can't draw y=x?
That's the first line you draw when you learn this.
