1. Factor the largest factor you can out of all terms on left side. 2. Try to factor the trinomial on the left. 3. If you can's factor it, use the quadratic formula.

well you can see that 18^2-27*4*9 is less than 0 just by looking, so you will have complex roots. You can calculate them with the formula for quadratic equations x1=(-b+sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a and x2=(-b-sqrt(b^2-4ac))/2a
