What is the amount of sales tax owed on a $35 jacket if the tax rate is 6%?

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

Any idea what the formula to figuring out a percentage is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

division

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not so sure

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

Nope... Lets say you have 100$ 50% of 100$ is 50$. 100% of 100$ is 100$. So you do 100$ * 1 = 100$. 100$ * 0.50% = 50$!

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

so in this case we have 35$. we want to know the sales tax on 6%... Now what do we have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5.80

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

nope :(. What did you enter?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6x6

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

??/

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

if we have a 100$ jacket and want 20% of it, we do 100 * .2 = 20$. Now what do we do for 35$ @ 6%?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does that sign mean

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

*??

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

multiplication.

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

% is percent $ is money.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 35 x 6

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

nop... that would be 600%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im lost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Look at the videos I sent you :)

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

6% = 0.06. 60% = 0.60. 600% = 6.00

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 2.1

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

yessir.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for ur help

OpenStudy (konradzuse):

medal please, if you don't mind :)..
