Find the numerical value of csc x if sec x cot x = 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Recognize that csc is just 1/sin, and that sec is 1/cos while cot is cos/sin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was hoping you can walk me through the steps?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[secxcotx=\frac{ 1 }{ \cos }*\frac{ \cos }{ \sin}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The cosine(s) cancel each other out, and you get 1/sin the same thing as csc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if sec x cotx =4 and you times that = the 1 over cos times cos over sin.. the numerical value of csc would be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 too. the question really is just testing to see if you recognise how different trig functions interact.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ugh, im so dumb . i should have known that!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anytime, and you're not dumb! You jsut didnt see it that way.
