How did the Islamic soldiers help the people of Africa?

Well let's think.
Islam spread fast to lots of places. One of those places was Africa.
Many Islamic soldiers recruited African soldiers, with this many Africans gained freedom and what not. Plus I sure Islamic soldiers helped Africans with a war against Britain :) [Not sure what the name is thou, google can help :P]

Islam made to Northern parts of Africa well, but didn't quite successfully make it to the south spots.
