Mathematics 6 Online
Parth (parthkohli):

Convincing parents that you are OK at mathematics.

Parth (parthkohli):

My parents keep reminding me that I am very bad at mathematics. How do I convince them that I am still okay at math despite my limited knowledge in the subject?

Parth (parthkohli):

For example, I am being threatened that the internet would be cut-off for me if I don't qualify for http://brilliant.org summer camp (40 students) and if I don't stand in the top-25 for an olympiad.

Parth (parthkohli):

I know that this is a very personal question... it might be closed. But how would I convince them?

Parth (parthkohli):

And this is really not a joke.

mathslover (mathslover):

Well what I do is just tell them what I did and they get convinced.

Parth (parthkohli):

Wish my life was as simple as yours.

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

well you will have to do some working yourself. tell them to take a couple of tests of yours! score good. problem solved! :)

mathslover (mathslover):

Actually the parents notice the time period of your sitting i.e. concentration. If you concentrate yourself in studies and give yourself less break /limited then this will work.

Parth (parthkohli):

I don't know... my parents believe that I have been wasting time on the internet, even though my first question when I joined OpenStudy was, "what is factoring?".

mathslover (mathslover):

I hope that you regularly give tests like olympiads and talent ones ?

Parth (parthkohli):

I can't seem to find it anymore. I think it got deleted.

mathslover (mathslover):

Exams like olympiads give a chance to you to perform well and prove yourself... Have you given that?

OpenStudy (uri):

Show them your Os account and the blog? How much you help people. Here.

OpenStudy (koikkara):

My parents doesn't care about studies at all.....then where to Convince them...?

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

well my dad used to take my test every alternate week. it worked for me back then.

OpenStudy (koikkara):

he knows ur the laziest.....

Parth (parthkohli):

@uri My dad once saw a troll posting a question "2 + 2 = ?" on OS. Ever since, he thinks that OS is about newbies.

OpenStudy (koikkara):

GUYS....Monday went on Tuesday 2 Wednesday and asked Thursday whether Friday has told Saturday that Sunday is a holiday. Have a Great Sunday...

OpenStudy (uri):

Now you can show him, your solutions, the testimonials you get, you're a Guiness chotto!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As far as I know U r very very good at maths.....

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

threats can be motivational;

OpenStudy (precal):

Parents always want the best for their children. Parenting methods vary. You should watch "Akeelah and the Bee" together- it showed parents that put undue pressure on the top children..... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0437800/ Good luck, try just communicating more with your parents. Teenagers tend to withdraw and not communicate. This is a great time to learn to have a civil conversation and learn to agree to disagree. Also show them advance problems that we solve in OS.
