- 7 2/9 _ 3 2/15 --------- They are both negative so you add them but keep the negative sign. There is two ways to do this. You can turn them into improper fractions and then add them (finding common denominator) or you can add the whole numbers, then add just the fractions, then put them together. (1st way) - 7 2/9 = - 65/9 - 3 2/15 = - 47/15 common denominator is 45 changes the problem to - 325/45 - 141/45 = - 466/45 = - 10 16/45 (2nd way) add the whole numbers , -7 - 3 = - 10 add the fractions, 2/9 + 2/15 (common denominator is 45) changing the problem to 10/45 + 6/45 = 16/45 now put them together and you have - 10 16/45 either way you get the same answer. You should do it whichever way is easier for you :)
