How might historical context influence a literary work? Use an example with which you are familiar, and, in at least two well-developed paragraphs, explain how the historical context affected the work.

Historical Context is one of the most important tools in analyzing a literary work. To see several examples of this go to the Context section on a Sparknotes summary and you will often see parallels between events taking place during the author's life and themes of the literary work. For example, here's a quote from the SparkNote page for George Orwell's 1984: "The rise to power of dictators such as Adolf Hitler in Germany and Joseph Stalin in the Soviet Union inspired Orwell’s mounting hatred of totalitarianism and political authority. Orwell devoted his energy to writing novels that were politically charged, first with Animal Farm in 1945, then with 1984 in 1949."
