Which of the following represents the set of integers greater than or equal to −5? {−5, −6, −7, …} {−5, −4, −3, …} {−5, −4, −3, …, 3, 4, 5} {all positive numbers}
You tell me why the first one is NOT the answer.
because its less ? @tkhunny
Because what is less than -5? -6 < -5 and -7 < -5 etc. Okay, now tell me why the last one is NOT the answer.
because they're not all positive numbers ?
?? No, it includes -6, doesn't it? We already established that -6 < -5. Okay, how about the number 9. Is 9 > -5?
yes
Does the third set contain 9?
yes ?..
Try again. The third set is finite and contains no integer greater than 5.
i think the answer is {−5, −4, −3, …} or the last one...
We certainly ruled out the other three! Good work.
so it is {−5, −4, −3, …} !!!
Hold on. I didn't see the fourth one correctly. It does NOT contain -6. It is only POSITIVE numbers. It's problem is two-fold. 1) It contains non-integers, like 3/2 and \(\sqrt{2}\) 2) It fails to contains -3, whcih clearly is greater than -5.
so what does that mean.... ?
Nothing new. We ruled it out incorretly, before, but we just ruled it out correctly, so it's still gone and #2 is still the right one. Sorry for confusion.
okay!! thank you so much for your time and help! really means alot!!!! @tkhunny
