I am writing a works cited page using a typewriter. Is it acceptable to substitute underlining for italics where necessary? (typewriters can't write in italic)
This is a very interesting question eoghys. I would ask you to keep in mind that you are likely producing a works cited page for a standard(e.g mla, apa) that has been updated (in some cases) as recently as last year. This means the standards were created with the assumption that users implementing them would use modern devices and methods of document creation. Therefore, the following answer is solely my opinion: If you have no other option but to use a typewriter go for it. However, do not expect to get full credit as you are not following the standard. Even so, I doubt the penalties will be too severe.
