how many different sequences of heads or tails are possible if a coin is flipped 8 times?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

each time you flip it you have to multiply the number of possible outcomes by 2 1 flip = 2 sequences (just a head or a tail) 2 flip = 2 x 2 = 4 sequences 3 flips = 2 x 2 x 2 = 8 sequences ... therefore 8 flips = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = ?
