4x-7=17. You can check it by preforming the steps. first as you said add 7 to both sides and you get 4x=24. then you divide both sides by 4 and you get x=6. I figured this out by choosing a number I knew could be divided by 4. Then I subtracted 7 from it so when I added it back I could still divide it by 4. I hope that wasn't too confusing.
