LATIN! When using imperfect tense, such as the word portabam, would the English be I used to carry, I carried, or I was carrying?

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Mostly "I was carrying" or "I used to carry", according to context. I was carrying a bag when I saw Jane. I used to carry a bag when I was in primary school. would all be expressed with imperfect in Latin, French, Spanish Italian etc. On the contrary, I carried a bag to her yesterday would be expressed with the Latin perfect "portavi".
