This is the figure:
OpenStudy (anonymous):
think of it as the area of half a circle and a rectangel. do you know the area formulas?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes. Semi circle is A= 1/2 pi r squared.
rectangle is b X h
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but I am confused because I don't have a radius. Right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
u do it is 8, the same as thelength of the rectangle

sorry 8/2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so r = 4, can u solve it now?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
25.12?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i got 65.1
OpenStudy (anonymous):
How did you do it?? I was getting the area of a semi circle.
(pi r squared / by 2)
4 X 4 = 16
16*3.14 = 50.24
50.24/2 = 25.12

Now the rectangle area (8 X 5) is 40.
I just added 40 + 25.12 and I got 65.12.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yup that is right
OpenStudy (anonymous):
OH. It says round to the nearest tenth! Okay so would it be answer choice C?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yup
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Wait what about that little extra space on the bottom? Is that covered in the 8 cm?
