OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

Determine the value of c so that f(x) is continuous on the entire real line if: f(x) = {x^2 for x< or = 3; c/x for x >3}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is much easier than you think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

replace \(x\) by \(3\) in the first expression, get \(3^2=9\) then set \(\frac{c}{3}=9\) and solve for \(c\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then they will agree when \(x=3\) and so it will be continuous

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

Wow. :( Math always seems so much harder than you think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, but once you know it it gets much easier think about when you were learning to add fractions (which is harder than this!)
