I need help and I will give a medal! Please solve each of the inequalities below and graph the solution on a number line. It will be beneficial to you to show work on all problems so your instructor may provide specific feedback. However, to receive full credit for this assignment, you must show work for #4 and 5. You may either use a paint program, power point, or any program you choose to create the number line graphs, draw the graphs by hand and scan, or describe the graph in words. For example, x > 3 would be “x is greater than 3. The graph would have an open circle on 3 with shading
1. x – 3 > –9 2. –2x + 1 ≤ –11 3. 10 < –3x + 1 4. 2(x + 5) > 8x – 8 5. –2(x – 3) ≥ 5 – (x + 3)
6. Explain, in complete sentences, when you would use an open circle or a closed circle, and when you would shade to the right or left, to graph an inequality on the number line. 7. Describe a real life scenario where inequalities are used and state the inequality.
Whoa. That's a lot of questions to answer.
I REALLY DISLIKE ALGEBRA!!
Oops caps... :)
@abb0t: Tell me about it
Okay. 1. x>-6 because x-3>9 you have to move the 3 to the other side which changes its sign to a negative than you subtract. 2. x≥6 Because -2x+1≤-11 You have to move the one to the other side when you do that you subtract 11-1 which makes -12. -2x≤-12 than divide -2 into -12 which is 6. You have to change the ≤ sign to ≥ because you are dividing by a negative 3. 3>x because 10 < –3x + 1 you have to move the one again which gives you 10-1=9 Than you divide 9 by -3 which equals 3. Again since you divided by a negative the sign changes from < to > 4. x<3 because 2(x + 5) > 8x – 8 you have to distribute 2(x-5) which gives you 2x+10. 2x+10>8x-8 than you move the 10 to the other side which changes to a - and gives you -10+-8 Than move the 8 and make it a + This gives you -6x>-18 than divide. This gives you 3. Again you have to change the sign because you divided by a negative. 5. x≤4 because –2(x – 3) ≥ 5 – (x + 3) you have to distribute. -2x+6≥5-x-3 you move the -x over and move the 6 over This gives you: -2x+x≥5-3-6 -1x≥-4 and you divide -4 by -1. This gives you positive 4 and since you divided by a negative you change the signs.
Thank you sooo much!! You have just saved me!! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Your welcome :)
6. You would use an open circle on a graph if it was greater than or less than < or > A closed circle you would use if it was less than or equal to or greater than or equal to ≤ or ≥
