Please Help! Evaluate the limit, if it exists.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\lim_{h \rightarrow 0}\frac{ (-5+h)^2-25 }{h }\]

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

did you try expanding the numerator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

the goal is to cancel the h on bottom so that you don't divide by zero

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

what did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got -10h+ h^2/ h

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

good ... now just factor out an "h" on top :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is -10

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yep, thats the limit as h->0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you
