How does increasing the tension of a spring affect a wave on the spring?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it increases the frequency. Because the velocity of the wave equals the square root of the tension divided by the string density. So as the tension goes up, the velocity must go up as well. But only by a factor of T^(1/2)

thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is velocity different than frequency?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are related. The angular velocity of a wave is equal to 2*pi*frequency
