which is the best book for DIGITAL ELECTRONICS ?

I liked Sedra and Smith too but it is a general introduction to electronics and covers many topics at a beginner (and some intermediate) level. My edition has a discussion on TTL logic which I haven't seen in any other of my textbooks. A book on digital electronics could mean one at a low level looking at transistor equations and talking about switching delays in great detail or it could be something at a higher level talking about logic, state machines, etc. I can't think of a good recommendation on either but I can recommend having a look at this book in the library once you have seen the basics of digital circuit design and want to go further by looking into VLSI: "CMOS VLSI Design (3rd edition is mine)," Weste / Harris, ISBN 0321149017
