Why did the United States want Hawaii, also did America give Hawaii demands w/ the use of force if necessary?

It started off as a stop for proselytizing. And moved into a protectorate. We wanted it because of its location (halfway to the Philippines which we took in 1898) and because it had a terrific natural harbor for our fleet of ships. By the 1950s when it became a state, the inhabitants voted to join the union. No violence.
