Ben is a safety inspector for a family gym. Recently, guests have been complaining about the diving board saying that it is leaning towards the water. Ben needs to know whether this diving board is standing up straight or not. Ben measures the height of the diving board to be 15 feet. The pool is 13 feet across and he measures the diagonal from the other side of the pool to the top of the diving board to be 21 feet. Is the diving board at a 90 degree angle with the ground? Explain how you know.
Well, from the information given, we can use sine and cosine formulas to find the angles. Remember this SOHCAHTOA (sine = opposite/hypotenuse, cosine = adjacent/hypotenuse, and tangent = opposite/adjacent)
I tryed Using Formulas but i still dont seem to get it /;
we'll say A=13ft, B=15ft, and C=21ft sin A = 13/21 that gives us 0.6190... which is about 38º
If you put your calculator to degree mode and then put in sine 38 it should give you 0.6156...
the formula they gave us was A2+B2=C2
oh... I completely forgot about the Pythagorean Theorem! I'm doing Trig Functions in my math so that's why that come to mind
Yeahh Im Like Im Pre Cal And This Comes Up And I was like niceee -.- give me stuff i forget
Okay well we'll still use A=13ft B=15ft and C=21ft \[13^{2}+15^{2}=21^{2}\] 169 + 225 = 441 394 = 441 It's not a right triangle
I'm in Pre-cal as well!!!
Thanks :D Just Saved My Life (:
Welcome!!! =) (= <3
