You look around. All you can see for miles is piles of rubble, chunks of steel crossbeams, and the dust hanging heavy in the air, toxic to breathe. It's conspicuously empty. Most signs of life you can see are clearly abandoned. What people you don't see lying dead under heaps of crumbled limestone are salvaging the ruins for something- anything- to keep them nourished. Some of them are children, their clothes ragged, their faces covered in soot. They're far more agile than you, either way- they easily scamper over the boulders of toppled buildings that lie in the streets, while you can hardly traverse the sidewalks, for all their heaps of garbage and cement. You'd escape if you could. But you can't. The destruction is piled too high around you for you to even remember what the outside looks like. In the end, your own creations suffocated you.
