what is the value of x to the nearest tenth? http://i46.tinypic.com/xp4ld3.png A. 15.7 B. 4.4 C. 13.9 D. 1.9

Directrix (directrix):

@DeathBlow Do you know the Geometry theorem for this? If begins as "The bisector of an angle of a triangle divides the side opposite the angle into two ......"

Directrix (directrix):

Hint: Angle Bisector Theorem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean i know the theorem but I still never understood it. This is my second time taking geometry because i failed it before. I know the theorems but I still always get really confused.

Directrix (directrix):

The bisector of an angle of a triangle divides the side opposite the angle into two segments that are proportional to the lengths of the other two sides. That means the following for the given diagram: 14.8 is to x as 7.8 is to 8.3 So, your task is to solve the following equation for x: 14.8/x = 7.8/8.3 Work it out and post your result.

So i cross multiplied and the answer would be a? 15.7?

Directrix (directrix):

I got 15.7487 which is 15.7 to the nearest tenth. Our answers agree.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay! Thank you for explaining that formula to me.

Directrix (directrix):

Glad to help, DeathBlow. Don't give up on Geometry this time around. It's all about knowing how to apply those theorems. Be brave.
