Whether progress is worth its price sounds like a question of opinion. There's no right or wrong answer here. What do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree, it depends on the people that it affects and if a change is wanted then it can be for the better but if they are not cooperative then it is worthless and progress can not be made. In order to have progress sacrifices have to be made. So you loose some to gain some.

I agree with that. It totally depends on the situation. I think that progress is generally worth the cost, if the progress is made, in order to overcome limitations. Like a long time ago, when humans saw that they were unable to carry heavy loads of material across a long distance, they invented the wheel. Their inability to carry heavy loads was a limitation. Their progress was the invention of the wheel. And the wheel has brought us pretty far. Not only has it led to other mechanical progresses, like a chain effect, but it has also helped us shape our entire culture, in hundreds of ways. But without limitations, I think that progress could actually be quite disastrous. For example, imagine what would happen if we gave nuclear weaponry, to an isolated civilization. What if we gave weapons of mass destruction.... to people without limitations that require weapons of mass destruction? Without limitations, I think they would probably abuse their newfound progress. The costs would not be worth it.

Your example gave me more of an insight , thanks.
