I have come up with what I thought was the correct answer. But, this is a multiple choice question and what I got is not an option, sadly :( What is the solution set for |x – 2|– 1 > 2? I was sure that the answer was x>5 or x<1

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the first part x > 5 is correct the next part x < 1 is not

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is x<-1, right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

|x – 2|– 1 > 2 |x – 2| > 2-1 |x – 2| > 1 x-2 > 1 or x-2 < -1 So you should have x-2 < -1 instead of x-2 < 1

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes, x < -1 is your second piece

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Using process of elimination, I knew that had to be it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

well hopefully you see how to get x < -1
