Most petroleum is transported as crude from producing nations to refining nations in very large tankers, on long trips over vast oceans with their natural weather. Man induced collisions occur, pirates attacks, accidents by docking etc. On land, earth quakes, land slides, terrorists, opportunists, lack of maintenance, breaks oleo-ducts. Oil can also sip though cracks and extend over the area.
