Two tourists who are at a distance of 40 km from their camp must reach it together in the shortest possible time . they have one bicycle which they decide to use in turn. One of them started walking at a speed of 5km/hr and the other rode off on the bicycle at a speed of v2=15 km/hr . the tourists agreed to leave the bicycle at intermediate points between which one walks and the other rides . what will the mean speed of the tourists be ? how long will the bicycle remain unused.?
mean speed we can calculate total distance divide by total time taken.... as one of them is riding and other on is walking.... man who is walking will cover 10km distance in 2 hrs and peson who is riding will cover the distance 30km in 2 hrs.... so they'll meet in 2hrs... and mean speed will be 20km/hr
no, they both start from the same time from the same point and while one is walking the other is riding. the one who is riding stops after covering some distance and starts to walk. the one who was walking earlier covers the distance to meet the stalled bike and picks it up and starts riding. while the other is walking ahead.... this continues ...
answers: avg speed= 7.5 km/hr min. possible time= 5 hours 20 min time for which the bike is unused= 2 hrs 40 min
