A 200.0-gram mass (m1) and 50.0-gram mass (m2) are connected by a string. The string is stretched over a pulley. Determine the acceleration of the masses and the tension in the string.

is tension always equal to its weight?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

when you pull string on one side with 1N and on other side with 2 N what is the tension?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

same is the case here, from one side, 200 gm mass is pulling ... from other side, 20 gm is pulling. Think this case as you have a rope, and from one side, you are pulling with 0.2*9.8 N force while your little brother is on other side, pulling with 0.02*9.8 N force. Hint: when you pull a string from that is attached to wall with 10N force, then tension is 10N
