Help complete the coordinate table for the given equation (xy = -4) I have: x = -3, -2, -1, 1, 2, 3 y = 1, ,2, 3, -3, -2, -1

Any help?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

None of your y values appear to fit the given equation! Solve the equation for y: \[xy=-4\]\[y=-\dfrac{4}{x}\]Now plug all of your values of x into that formula and write down the resulting y-values. For example, x = -3, y = -4/-3 = 4/3.

@whpalmer4 I'm not really sure how to solve my y values.. I tried for a long time, and even checked some algebra books, but I couldn't figure it out.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

It's just arithmetic. For x = -2, y = -4 / -2 = 2. For x = -1, y = -4 / -1 = 4. And so on...it's too simple :-)
