susie makes gift baskets for partys. she has 13 baskets left over and plans to make 12 more each day. if there are 15 workdays how many baskets will she have? do I 15*12+13=193 or use explicit formula =13+ (15-1)12=181???

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

what do you mean by explicit formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a(sub n)=a(sub 1) + (n-1)d. This is the unit this lesson is from. explicit and recursive formulas. It just seemed to easy getting the answer 193 but maybe that is what I am suppose to do.

The way I figure out questions like this, is say, suppose it were 1 workday (instead of 15 workdays). I know the answer must be 12 made on the workday plus the 13 If it were 2 workdays, that would add another 12. Looking at this pattern, it must be 15 workdays * 12 baskets/workday + 13 baskets
