will award medal! Which phrase characterizes U.S. policy toward Latin America during the Progressive Era? friendly and trusting tolerant and humanitarian indifferent and uninvolved paternalistic and interventionist
I'd say paternalistic and interventionist. As the US grew in power, it viewed stepping into Latin America's backyard whenever their aims did not fit as a part of its mandate. If a US business was in trouble in a Latin American country, for example, the US would roll in and "fix" things. It's one of the reasons why there's still a bit of bad blood between a number of Latin American nations and the US even today -- they all point back to how badly we trampled over their sovereign rights in order to push our own agendas.
